Local health organisation welcomes new lead for patient involvement

A health group responsible for planning and purchasing a vast majority of health services across Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby areas has appointed a new lead for patient and public involvement.

NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has appointed Whitby area resident, Linda Lloyd as Lay Member of the Governing Body with a Lead for Patient and Public Involvement.

Dr Charles Parker, Chair of the CCG’s Governing Body said: “Linda has worked very closely with the CCG since 2013 after she was elected Health Engagement Network Representative for Whitby and the surrounding area.

“Linda’s already been a true advocate for the public, particularly for Whitby and the surrounding area, ensuring any issues or concerns are raised and responded to by the CCG. She has also been actively involved in supporting the redevelopment project of Whitby Hospital and acted as the patient voice in the procurement of a new service provider for the Whitby community contract.

“We’ve no doubt that Linda’s experience with the CCG along with her work at local, regional and national level will continue to be of value to both the CCG, the public and our patients. On behalf of the CCG, I’d like to congratulate Linda on her appointment”.

The Lay Member of the Governing Body with a Lead for Patient and Public Involvement has a role in overseeing many elements of the CCG with an emphasis on ensuring that, in all aspects of business, the public voice of the local population is heard and opportunities are created and protected for patient and public empowerment.

Linda said: “Taking on the CCG’s position of Lay Member of the Governing Body with a Lead for Patient and Public Involvement, is a real privilege.

“As I have been part of the CCG’s Health Engagement Network since it began, I believe that my appointment to this statutory role will strengthen the framework left by previous post holders and re-enforce the CCG’s commitment to public involvement. I look forward to continuing to voice the questions, concerns and opinions of patients and residents.

“I would really urge the entire population of Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby to join the CCG’s Health Engagement Network to keep up-to-date with the latest local health services news. It’s free and very easy to join – simply contact the CCG via post, phone or email.”

Linda will formally take up the position with the CCG from 1 April 2017.

The CCG has a membership of local residents across Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby areas called the ‘Health Engagement Network’. The network has lay member representation on the CCG’s Governing Body for each area, known as Health Engagement Network Representatives.

Any resident of Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby or the surrounding area can join the network for free.
