"Two important dates for your diary!

On Thursday 14 August, 7pm at Scarborough Library, Vernon Road, The Scarborough Urban Area Forum will be hosting a ‘summing up’ event on the recent consultation that has been conducted by the Borough Council on the draft Local Plan for the Borough. Two senior Council Planners will be in attendance at the meeting to explain the main themes, issues and concerns that have been raised through consultation on the plan. There will be further opportunity to comment on the trends raised. As always this meeting is open to anyone from the Borough to attend – this is a really important meeting for anyone who is interested in the future of our Town and our Borough. For more information contact Matthew Joseph 07786621924 or Kerry Lee 01723 232472.

Secondly on Friday 19 September (all day event 9am-5pm) at The Street, William Street Car Park, the Urban Area Forum, Coast and Vale Community Action, The Beach, Totally Locally Scarborough and Job Match present Totally Socially. Totally Socially – the first event of its kind to be held in Scarborough - takes place on Friday September 19th. It aims to highlight the vital role that social enterprises and small, local, independent businesses play in tackling social, environmental and economic challenges – and to inspire members of the community to see enterprise as a means of tackling problems.

Organisers are delighted to have secured the involvement of a well-known figure in this field. Chris Sands, founder of award-winning social enterprise Totally Locally, will show how passion and commitment can lift a whole community when he gives his keynote presentation at the event. Organisers are now able to announce that there will also be presentations from representatives from; Engaging Education, a social enterprise of young people who have taken an idea they had at school to deliver inspiring and engaging workshops to fellow young people all the way through to a full time business, representatives from the Big Lottery Fund and from the School of Social Entrepreurs.

As well as speakers the morning session will include workshops hosted by The BEACH, Totally Locally Scarborough and Scarborough Jobmatch and an exhibition featuring over twenty businesses, voluntary sector groups and social enterprises. In the afternoon the exhibition will be opened to the public and a Totally Locally Scarborough marquee will give people an opportunity to see the great products and services local, independent businesses have to offer. Please note: Although the afternoon of Totally Socially is open to the public anyone wishing to attend the morning session as a delegate needs to book a place by contacting David Stone on 01723 362205 or
